Lee Krasner
Lenore "Lee" Krasner was an American Abstract Expressionist painter and visual artist who gained her foundational training at institutions like the Women's Art School of Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design. She was deeply influenced by Post-Impressionism and Cubism, and by the 1940s became a key figure in the New York School of abstract artists, although her work was often overshadowed by her husband, Jackson Pollock. Their tumultuous marriage, marked by Pollock's alcoholism and infidelity, had a significant emotional impact on Krasner and influenced her evolving artistic style, which in her later years featured large, hard-edged, and brightly colored paintings. Krasner received various honors and posthumously, her significance as an artist was recognized through exhibitions and the establishment of the Pollock-Krasner House and Foundation. She is remembered as a seminal figure in Abstract Expressionism, with her legacy further cemented through the Foundation's support for new artists and scholarship in American art.
