The viral spread of the #metoo hashtag in 2017 propelled her to global leadership, emphasizing survivor-centric solutions and social justice prioritization in conversations about sexual violence. Burke's unwavering commitment has earned her numerous accolades, including TIME's Person of the Year in 2017 and one of USA Today’s Women of the Decade in 2020.
